Microcement: a new way to create livable modern art
I love exposed concrete -- raw, stained, coated, polished, you named. It is the perfect canvas for a modern remodel because of its versatility, ease of use and maintenance, and because it is a relative bargain compared to other hard decorative surfaces usually used to achieve a modern style home design. And for those of us who live in warm and dusty places the added bonus is its thermo-deterent qualities and hypoallergenic attributes. All and all a go-to option.

Project Decorate Take one: Screened outdoor area a la the Hamptons
I am ready with take one on my friend's new-home-fixer-upper remodel project. (you can see the original post for the back story) Surprise, surprise! there are complications with escrow, title etc., so my friend is having her hands full, but she is in love with the idea of turning the house into her dream home. So, we have been busy going over and planing a lot of the anticipated projects (and there will be a ton of those...).
Now, my friend want to get this

Black on White home decor
I just love black modern furniture against a crisp white wall!
photo found on pinterest and attributed to The Budget Decorator
the Vadbeak house by Norm Architects
Bonus points if paired with polished concrete floors and molded paneled walls as in the amazing remodel by the Norm Architectural Firm.
Decluttering by using modern black or dark brown furniture which have clean geometric lines is also a sure way to make your room look expensive, way more expensive, than it actually is. Here are some of my favorite choices of the moment ... (just hover over the collage for details)

Project Decorate: Outdoor Living Area Redo
My next design project is up and running and will be a challenging one. The house my friend is buying is a short sale, in bad condition, and with not much potential (if you ask me) but she likes it and it is within her price range. Escrow has not closed yet so I will not be posting pictures at this time but I will post this one as it gives a good idea about what we will be up against:

My friend has a vision of transforming this enclosed porch into a mini oasis (as tropical and snazzy as it can be done, as she put it, but for little money).
So, I first went looking for inspirations to figure out what exactly my friend had in mind. So here are some of the finalists (her picks):
Lush Loggia Patio (clipped to polyvore.com)
So stay tuned I will be posting the moodboards for each in my next posts. In the meantime which style you think will work best for our poor enclosed porch?
Thank you for reading and hope you will check back to see the moodboards and the final redesign.
XOXO Mimi
