Tricky Trend: ring & bracelet combo

I love flashy, eye-catching jewelry ... and if they are a vintage beauty (like this one) -- well you can't go wrong there! Right?

The ring and bracelet combo has been a hot trend for few seasons but lately high end designers are getting in on the trend with fabulous designs at affordable (well, all is relative, ...) prices. Giuseppe Zanotti's designs are my personal favorite and this one here is just amazing:

Hacienda Stairway done right

After Architectural Digest (clipped to polyvore.com)

I just love this stairway. I found the photo on polyvore and the attribution is unclear. It appears to be a photo from an Architectural Digest editorial and the text under the photo reads as follows:

"Custom-made moldings amplify the elegance of the entrance hall, which contains a Regency settee and a 1920s Navajo rug; the sconce is by Vaughan, and the umbrella stand is a Ming-dynasty sake jar. The art displayed along the stairway includes a colorful work on paper by Joan Mitchell." 

I don't think it applies to this photo. The rug is not a Navajo rug, neither is the settee a Regency style one. But who cares, it is magnificent. If I have to guess it is a recent renovation somewhere in So Cal and they stayed very true to the Spanish Colonial Revival style.

I love blue and white design for dinnerware. It is a timeless staple that seems to never go out of style. Think french county and Toile de Jouy or blue and white chinoiserie. Project Decorate: Outdoor Living Area Redo

My next design project is up and running and will be a challenging one. The house my friend is buying is a short sale, in bad condition, and with not much potential (if you ask me) but she likes it and it is within her price range. Escrow has not closed yet so I will not be posting pictures at this time but I will post this one as it gives a good idea about what we will be up against:

My friend has a vision of transforming this enclosed porch into a mini oasis (as tropical and snazzy as it can be done, as she put it, but for little money). 

So, I first went looking for inspirations to figure out what exactly my friend had in mind. So here are some of the finalists (her picks):

Skimpy swimsuit + flowy maxi dress

A friend of mine is going on vacation next week (lucky girl!!!) and with the usual pre-trip anxiety also kicked in the panic of being in a swimsuit and as she put it, on display. Now, if you are in your twenties and/or look like a model, those thoughts are alien to you. But for a lot of people that ain't so. 

I personally never felt uncomfortable in anything I chose to wear and I sure hope more people are like me. But I also understand the uneasiness my friend felt. So, after I gave her a good long pep talk, I suggested we go shopping for my favorite beach trend for this summer:

Even if you are not into the 70s-revival or you think that all thing hippie is just appalling, you'll have to admit these Black Coral flared pants are just amazing!!! They have the flair of the 70s yet look sophisticated and polished. They material and the cut are also very forgiving which is always a plus (we all have fallen in love with a pair only to find out that it just looks awful on you...)

Home Decor: Bohemian style my way in Five Easy and Budget-friendly Steps

Bohemian is a major trend in fashion this year and fashion trends naturally get their tentacles into home decor. 

Three things about Boho home revamp makes it a winning proposition. First, the good part about Bohemian style is that there are no rules -- it is that meandering, free spirit, everything-goes attitude, that really makes it special. Second, the whole purpose is to mix and match, so at its very core Boho style defies matchy-match approach to re-decorating. And third, since it relies on mixing old and new it is a perfect  way to revamp your space on a budget using what you have as a base.

Now, going all-in bohemian or gypsy is not my speed but I sure like to spice up my decors with some flair. Be it  a boho chair, a fabulous pouffe, or a mix and match collection of pillows on a shabby chic white sofa, they all have the miraculous power to turn a drab room into a relaxing oasis. Now if you want to go all in on a Boho look,the key is to keep to these five easy steps:

STEP One.  Find an ethnic rug. It is nice way to cover up your existing flooring, if there is not much to show there. Places like  World Market, Pier One Imports, or your local imports stores are a great places to look for.

STEP Two. Take a stock of your throw pillows and keep the colorful ones you still like. Then add some extra in various shapes, textures, and colors.

STEP Three. If you do not have one, get some low furnitures (i.e side tables, coffe table, small sofa, buffet, chests,) in wood that is either pained, stained, or has a natural finish. The more rustic and unpolished, the better.  One or two pieces is the most you will need.

STEP Four. Buy old frames from your local thrift store and hang your photos, posters, and paintings, other collectibles ALL on one wall. The 'gallery wall' is a great way to make a space distinctive and opens up a small space. Do not place any furniture against that wall.

STEP Five. Decor elements are a key. Get some metal lanterns, candle holders, trays, ethnic masks, wood carvings, etc. that you like and position them strategically.

Now, this is not a step, it is a must: you cannot pull off a Boho home decor without hanging some planters with lush green plants.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2015: The Ellery Collection

The Ellery show at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2015 was held at Carriageworks on April 12, 2015 in Sydney, Australia and it did attract the attention of the world for the wrong reason (remember the disgruntled neighbor who stormed the runaway to display his discontent about the noise at the venue ..., well if you missed it, you can check out the reports here ). Hot, hotter, hottest from the 2016 SS Sao Paolo Fashion Week

Sao Paolo Fashion week is over, so is Gisele's alleged last strut on the catwalks (and it was a spectacular one!!)

  

Colcci and Alexandre Herchcovitch each hit a home run with their respective collection in my book, for sure-- but nothing new here ...

 

And as every year past, after watching the footage and news from the world's hottest beaches, weather - and oh yes models - I am not ready to give up dreaming about long walks on secluded beaches, caipirinhas, and luxury vacations.
